New Year’s Online Retreat 22/23 ~ Registration closed

Taught by
Ayya Anandabodhi & Ayya Santacitta

with Movement Sessions Offered by Lissa Edmond

December 28, 2022 – January 3, 2023

If you have any questions about this retreat, please contact our retreat manager at <kathycheney48@gmail.com>.

We come together as a community to support each other in our practice, consciously letting go of the past and opening to the New Year with whatever it may bring. This year because of COVID we will once again bring a monastic environment into your own home by creating an online retreat community.

In the spirit of the monastic lifestyle, we encourage you to follow the Eight Precepts which include ethical and renunciate precepts. It is supportive to engage in your home activities with the same care, restraint, and mindfulness – as if you were at a retreat center.

The retreat will include chanting, meditation, and daily Dhamma teachings from the Aloka Vihara bhikkhunis. There will also be opportunities for Q&A (we will not be offering group practice discussions).

Lissa Edmond will offer live movement sessions to support ease and well-being.

Here is a link to our retreat schedule.

Between the formal online sessions, we will provide a suggested schedule of sitting and walking meditation to support your sustained practice at home.

The Eight Precepts:

To refrain from…

1) taking the life of any living creature
2) taking that which is not given
3) any intentional sexual activity
4) false and harmful speech
5) consuming intoxicating drink and drugs which lead to carelessness
6) eating at inappropriate times (after midday)*
7) entertainment, beautification, and adornment
8) lying on a high or luxurious sleeping place (not indulging in sleep)

* If for medical reasons you need to eat in the evening, please mindfully attend to your needs.

Continuing in the ancient Buddhist tradition, the retreat and teachings are offered freely. In turn, retreatants have the opportunity to support those teaching the Dhamma, and making the retreat available, by offering donations (dana) to the Saranaloka Foundation and the retreat manager, Kathy Cheney. The movement teacher, Lissa Edmond, will receive compensation for their guidance from the Saranaloka Foundation.

Your donation will support the offering of future New Year’s retreats.
